Event
Messe Luzern sits on the Allmend, a flat exhibition ground at the southern edge of the city with the Alps visible on a clear day and the lake a short walk north. Since 2014, for three days at the end of May, it becomes the central gathering point for the Swiss classic car scene. Dealers, restorers, clubs, private collectors and parts suppliers converge in one place before the summer season properly begins.
The 2027 edition is the thirteenth, running 28 to 30 May. Around 200 exhibitors fill the halls with more than 1,000 vehicles spanning classics, youngtimers and two-wheelers. The supporting programme has settled into a recognisable shape over the years. The Belmot Swiss Classic World Rallye, a one-day regularity event, starts and finishes at Messe Luzern and runs straight through the exhibition halls. A youngtimer driving event and a Sunday gathering of pre-war cars on the forecourt round out the weekend, and the Oldtimer Galerie Toffen auction sends a selection of cars under the hammer.
The format is deliberately Swiss in character: orderly, comprehensive, not ostentatious. You will find serious restoration work displayed alongside everyday usable classics, club stands with deep marque knowledge, and parts traders with stock that is difficult to source elsewhere. The auction gives collectors in acquisition mode a separate reason to attend. It is not a glamour show. It is the working infrastructure of a scene that takes its cars seriously.
Lucerne is well connected by rail from most of central Europe, with the main station ten minutes by bus from Messe Luzern. The Vierwaldstättersee waterfront and the old town are within walking distance for the evening. The Brünigpass east toward Interlaken and the Susten and Gotthard roads south make the drive worthwhile in either direction.
