Event
The Strada Borromea is a private road climbing nearly six kilometres from Gignese, above Stresa on Lake Maggiore, to the summit of Mottarone at 1,491 metres. It has 65 corners, panoramic views over the lake and the Alps, and is not normally open to cars. TuttoBene Hillclimb was conceived by the Milan design studio BorromeoDeSilva in collaboration with California's Race Service specifically to use it.
The format is non-competitive by design. Around 80 invited cars make multiple runs up the road across the weekend, with no timing and no results. The selection criterion is described simply as „only cool cars allowed" – which in practice has produced a mix of limited-production Porsches, Ferrari special series, Alfa Romeo 8Cs, vintage rally cars and modern hypercars, depending on the edition. The first edition ran in 2024; the 2026 edition is the third.
The social structure of the weekend is as considered as the driving. A welcome dinner on Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore, opens the event. The open paddock format means the cars are accessible throughout, and the participant list is small enough that the atmosphere stays concentrated. Technical support from Special Stages manages safety on the course.
Gignese is above Stresa on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, about an hour from Milan by road. The lake itself offers enough to build a longer trip around – the Borromean Islands, the Liberty-era villas along the shore, and the roads north toward the Simplon and Gotthard passes for those continuing further.
